What is a chicken share?
A share gives you the opportunity to receive whole chickens monthly during our growing season directly from us. Our chickens are raised outside in the sunshine, moved to fresh pasture each day, and enjoy a daily ration of locally sourced nonGMO feed. They are respectfully and lovingly raised, processed, and packed right here at our homestead & farm in Franklin County, NC. This is a great program for families who eat 1-2 chickens per month or who would like to stock their freezer for the winter months when availability is limited.
What are the options?
Half Share: 5 whole chickens, $140, 1 chicken per month (May through September)
Whole Share: 10 whole chickens, $280, 2 chickens per month (May through September)
What are the benefits?
Share members save about 6.7% when buying chicken in bulk for the season versus at our retail price throughout the year.
Members have guaranteed product availability. There's no wondering if we have our delicious chicken in stock when you've reserved in advance!
Buying in advance helps us plan out (and pay for!) our season more effectively.
How do I become a member?
Simply shop with credit, debit, ACH, or Paypal through our website: Whole Share Half Share (pricing includes a 4% convenience fee and required 2% food tax)
OR Email (bigoctober2@gmail.com) or text Jenn (919-218-5016) with your order. You’ll get an invoice (including 2% food tax) that can be paid with Venmo, cash, or check.
Prior shares members get first dibs! If you’ve been a member before, you have a whole week to reserve your spot before this program is offered to everyone else! If you’d like to sign up again for 2025, please have your order in by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. The program will open to all customers on Monday, March 17.
Shares spots are limited and will fill quickly, so don’t wait! All shares reservations & payments are due by Saturday, April 19, 2025. Spots are not held without payment!
How do I get my order?
If you shop through our website, you’re good to go! If you email or text, you’ll receive an invoice to confirm your order & obtain payment. In our monthly email reminder, you’ll see options for order pickup and will need to respond via email or text to let us know when you’d like to pick up. We have daily options for homestead pickup, monthly meetups in Louisburg & Youngsville, and twice monthly pickups at the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative. If you cannot meet at any of the given times, simply reach out so we can make other arrangements.
Things to remember:
We have limited freezer space and are unable to store your chicken beyond designated pickup dates. Any items not picked up by the first weekend of the following pickup month will be donated to our church’s food pantry.
Custom cuts are NOT available for shares orders this year. All shares orders will be whole, frozen chickens. If you’re looking for specific cuts, please make a separate order for these items.
You can totally get more than 1 share! Some families mix and match and get 1 half share and 1 whole share, some get 2 whole shares. Do what works best for your family.
